Cosmic Rays

Hörandel is an expert in astroparticle physics. He is interested in the origin of cosmic rays, the highest-energy particles in the Universe. His activities span a wide range, from direct measurements of cosmic rays above the atmosphere with instruments on balloons to the measurement of air showers, induced by high-energy cosmic rays in the atmosphere. He plays leading roles in several air shower experiments. His interest is also devoted to phenomenological aspects of astroparticle physics, in particular he is an expert on the origin of the „Knee“ in the energy spectrum of cosmic rays.
